Employee Story: Archie – Apprentice Project Engineer

When did you first join Global Fire & Security, and what attracted you to the company?

I joined Global Fire and Security in 2023. Initially I did A-Levels but I didn’t want to go to university and wanted to go into a career that was more practical and hands on. The fire and security industry seemed like a good career path with lots of progression.

How has your career developed since joining, and what kind of support did you receive along the way?

I worked alongside a mentor for 18 months and then was able to work independently putting everything I had learnt into practice. I initially started at apprentice level and have now moved onto doing a Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installations qualifications and will also go on to do further FIA courses.

What do you enjoy most about working here, both in your role and in the company culture?

I really enjoy the practical side of the work but also meeting clients and finding out what they need and then going above and beyond to make sure their happy and their needs are met. At Global, the engineers help each other out and my manager has been excellent in supporting and guiding me, providing practical advice as well as being a mentor having had many years of experience in the industry.

What advice would you give to someone considering starting a career at Global Fire and Security?

There is always a variety of work and support, and training is available to help you. The company has been flexible with supporting with training and I have done lots of courses to help me with my career.

How do you picture your future and next steps with Global Fire and Security?

I would like to do more commissioning and it’s also the most challenging which I enjoy. I like the variety of the work and being on the tools and there is always something different every day.
