Employee Story: Liam – Mechanical Supervisor, Northern Team
What is your role at Global Fire & Security?
I’m a Mechanical Supervisor with the Northern team. I look after a group of engineers, making sure jobs are planned, carried out safely, and finished to a high standard. I still get hands on too, working on Fire Extinguishers, Ansul systems, and other mechanical fire protection equipment
When did you join Global Fire & Security, and what made you want to work here?
I joined Global Fire & Security back in September 2017. I first heard about the company through my partner, who was working in the office at the time. She always spoke highly of Global, and the way the company looks after its staff. She told me it was a good place to work, so when a role came up, I went for it.
What attracted me most was the reputation the company had for being professional but also friendly. You can tell straight away that people here genuinely care about what they do, and that made me want to be part of it.
How has your career developed since you started, and what support have you had along the way?
I started out as a mechanical engineer, mainly working on servicing Portable Fire Extinguishers and Ansul systems. It was a great way to get to know the business and the different sites we work on.
After a few years, my manager encouraged me to move up into a supervisor role, which I might not have done without that push. The company backed me all the way, they arranged the training and courses I needed and gave me the chance to build my skills and confidence. That support has made a massive difference. It’s good to work somewhere that actually invests in your progression rather than just talking about it.
What do you enjoy most about working here?
For me, it’s the variety, no two days are ever the same. As an engineer, I get to travel around, visit different sites, and meet all kinds of people. Some of the venues we go are really interesting, and there’s always something new to learn.
I like being part of a team that takes pride in what we do, keeping people safe and doing the job right. It’s a good bunch of people to work with, and that makes a big difference too.
